A peach that is juicy and sweet/sour, many say the best tasting of all peaches and cream with a pit that does not cling wrapped in a near fuzzless skin: You want that peach!
Also called Saucer or Peento Peach. Unique white-fleshed fruit with a sunken center (shaped like a doughnut). The donut peach is much sweeter than yellow peaches and lower in acidity. Some recognize a hint of almond overtones in its mild flavor. It is velvety and creamy between the teeth.
That is the almost ancient Chinese pan tao peach which also is called peento peach, Chinese flat peach, saucer peach, and Saturn peach as in the rings of Saturn which this peach looks a bit like when its pit is popped from it flattened center.
You can use the donut peach like any other peach: Serve alone as a snack, add to fruits salads, make into pies, tarts, and cakes, bake into muffins, chop and add to salsa, or grill with other summer fruits.
Donut peaches are a species of the genus, Prunus, and classified as a stone fruit alongside plums, apricots, cherries, and almonds. There are two types of peaches: yellow-fleshed and white fleshed. The name 'Donut' is a trademarked name designated to a white peach variety that is of the same lineage as other flattened "doughnut" type varieties that possess essentially identical inherent physical and flavor attributes. Other common names include Chinese peach, Jupiter peach, Saturn peach, Sweetcap and Saucer Peach.
